Brian Hutchison became a member of CHEPA in 1998, and served as its director from 2002 until his retirement in 2005. He joined McMaster University in 1975, and is a professor emeritus in the departments of family medicine and clinical epidemiology and biostatistics.
The capstone of his career was realized in 2004 when he was awarded the Health Services Research Advancement Award from the Canadian Health Services Research Foundation. The award recognizes significant contributions to the advancement of the health services research community in Canada.
Hutchison is editor-in-chief of the journal Healthcare Policy, co-chair of the Ontario Family Health Team Quality Management Collaborative, and was the co-director of the former Community Care Research Centre.
His research has focused on health services delivery, particularly in primary and community care, health care funding and resource allocation, physician payment methods, primary care health policy, and illness prevention.
Although officially retired, Hutchison is still involved with several ongoing research projects.
