CHEPA PRESENTATIONS

Julia Abelson was part of a plenary session entitled Changing Models, Changing Practices: Building bridges from research to implementation, at the 2008 annual conference of the Canadian Association of Health Services and Policy Research in Hull, Que., in May 2008.

Jeremiah Hurley presented a paper on Australia’s subsidy to private health insurance at the 20th Annual Conference of the University of British Columbia Centre for Health Services and Policy Research, in Vancouver in March 2008. To view the presentation, click here.

Ivy Bourgeault presented a paper on internationally-educated health care workers at the inaugural Health Human Resources Policy Conference of the Canadian Institute for Health Information, in Ottawa, in December 2007. She also gave a presentation comparing the policy context around the migration of doctors and nurses in Canada and the U.K., at the University of Swansea in Wales, in September 2007.

Amiram Gafni was a keynote speaker at the 7th International Symposium on Health Economics in Sao Paulo, Brazil, in August 2007.

CHEPA health economists were prominent at the July 2007 International Health Economics Association 6th World Congress in Copenhagen, Denmark. Stephen Birch, Paul Contoyannis, Phil DeCicca, Amiram Gafni, Michel Grignon and Jeremiah Hurley presented their work on topics including resource allocation methods, the effects of cigarette taxes on maternal smoking and birth outcomes, and the impacts of abuse in childhood on adult economic outcomes. Several CHEPA members, including Director Julia Abelson, Associate Director Jeremiah Hurley, Ivy Bourgeault and Mita Giacomini, made presentations at the June 2007 annual conference of the Canadian Association for Health Services and Policy Research. Cathy Charles presented a paper on the development, use and evaluation of treatment decision aids at the 4th International Shared Decision Making Conference in Freiburg, Germany, in May 2007.

Mita Giacomini and Lisa Schwartz presented at the annual Canadian Bioethics Society conference, Ethics Matters, in May 2007, in Toronto.
